Resources for Influenza Education and Management

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website offers many resources on prevention, treatment, and facts about influenza, including printable materials, podcasts, videos, and articles. To access these resources visit www.cdc.gov/flu. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services issued new coding guidelines that advise nursing homes to code the MDS only for the "Seasonal Influenza Vaccine," not the "H1N1 Influenza Vaccine." They also recommend that nursing homes follow the CDC guidelines.

Culture Change and Nursing Issue Paper

The Hartford Institute, College of Nursing, NYU, in collaboration with the Coalition of Geriatric Nursing Organizations and the Pioneer Network convened an interdisciplinary Expert Panel of leaders in culture change and in gerontological nursing for a one-and-a-half day meeting in October, sponsored by the Commonwealth Fund. The purpose of this meeting was to foster dialogue, to identify facilitators and barriers to nurses' involvement in culture change, and to identify actions to promote competencies for nurses in a resident-directed care environment in nursing homes.  Charlotte Eliopoulos was one of the nurse leaders participating in this Panel. Results of LTC Leader Survey
